The Pico-Union district of Los Angeles is a neighborhood on the fringes of Downtown Los Angeles, in the shadow of the Staples Center, home to the Lakers & Clippers, and primarily populated by first-generation Latin-American immigrants. Considered to be one of the poorest neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles, this neighborhood is an example of how drastically an area can change over time.
At the turn of the 19th century, this area surrounding this neighborhood was among the most desirable land in the city, and today contains two historic districts as documented in the National Register of Historic Places: the South Bonnie Brae Tract Historic District and the Alvarado Terrace Historic District.
As you travel through the neighborhood, at any time you are likely to come across one of these absolutely stunning residences....

ReplyDeleteNice blog entry on Pico Union, except I feel that the "LAKERS & CLIPPERS" have nothing to do with Pico Union, unless in reference to the traffic/parking/crime problems that the publicly subsidized exploitation venues provide. There was much more of the fine Pico Union architecture before it was demolished for the freeway, the convention center, the staples center, the nokia center, the la live monster and all the wildcat parking that ensued. Pico Union now ends abruptly at the freeway, and the LAKERS & CLIPPERS are on the other side.
