San Fernando Valley Home Sales Up in 2008, after 4 Years of Decline...

The Southland Regional Association of Realtors has reported in their February 2 newsletter, that sales of existing single-family homes have INCREASED in 2008 by 13.1%. This is the first year that the number of sales have actually increased from year to year, after four consecutive years of decline, the last increase being reported in the period from 2002-2003.

According to Ana Maria Colon, the 2009 president of the Southland Regional Association of Realtors (SRAR), "We're at or near the bottom of this market's down cycle.. In my opinion, the market could turn at any moment. ...single-family homes are within reach for the first time in many many years."

Nancy Starczyk, the 2008 president of the SRAR's Santa Clarita Valley Division, seems to agree with this opinion. "The sense is that the pendulum is on the upswing with many people believing they need to make their move now. All the indicators suggest that activity will pick up even more in the second half of the year.", according to Starczyk.
